San Juan, Puerto Rico

old San Juan & forts

While San Juan does have some beaches, its beauty is in its streets, forts, culture, history, and people. Really no need for any excursion. Every visit to San Juan thus far we have simply just walked and toured around Old San Juan on our own. No taxi or transportation needed (although there are free trolleys running from morning till early evening if you’re interested). San Juan’s forts (Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal) are not to be missed. Unless pricing has gone up since our last visit, the forts are $7/adult, children 15 and younger are free, and the receipt is valid for both forts (for 24-hours period). Made some friends here (Park Rangers), enjoy catching up with them every time we’re there. We stopped at Café Don Ruiz (at Cuartel de Ballajá, near El Morro), some good coffee and smoothies. Other good coffee shops/stops: Café Cialito (at San Francisco St.) and Café Cuatro Sombras (at Recinto Sur St.).

SURFING (ISLA VERDE)

As we’ve been to San Juan PR many times and always walk around Old San Juan & check the forts etc, one time we decided to do something different and go Surfing! Found a local family owned business that does private Surfing lessons, and figured to give it a shot! It was fantastic!! My daughter and I were able to stand up on the surf board and surf small waves! So cool!
