Carnival Elation (Nov 2019)

EMBARKATION:

⚓ Super fast and smooth. Our boarding took us literally less than 15 minutes from Port entrance to the ship gangway. Fantastic!

CABIN:

⚓ When we got to our cabin around 11am after boarding, our room was not yet ready (should have been as Plat perk). No biggie, we just wanted to drop off our carryon and head to lido for lunch. Our steward apologized said he didn’t get the Priority list and finished our cabin very quickly. Few moments later the Floor Supervisor came by and apologized many times and we told him it’s really no problem at all.

⚓ We had an OV cabin this cruise in deck 5 mid, near the elevators. No issue with noise (whether from elevator ding/traffic or above/below since cabins).

SHIP:

Ship ofcourse is Fantasy class (smallest class ship). After having cruised many bigger ships (whole Conquest class, whole Dream class, Vista, and another line ship with 5100 guests), Elation most of the time seemed so empty! lol. Also after being in WDW for a couple of days right before embarkation (with all the crowds there), even Muster drill crowd on the ship felt like nothing. 😂

While Elation is one of the older ships (built in 1998), has been refurbished couple years ago and includes Guys Burgers, Blue Iguana, RedFrog Rum Bar, some new cabins, Waterworks and mini-golf. Even the MDR looked updated and nice. There is however no Steakhouse, Cucina, Jiji’s, or Mongolian Wok.

 STAFF/CREW/SERVICE:

The whole cruise our cabin steward was super! We kindly asked for an ice bucket on the first evening and every day he got it refilled with ice (without re-asking or anything).

Our waiters were also great and dinner service was quick and most nights we were ordering dessert about 45-50 mins after we had sat down. Not that this is an important factor for us, but refreshing to see this, compared to some other ships when it almost takes twice as long.

Our CD was Jen Baxter. She did a good job, but honestly I feel like we’ve been spoiled by some great CD’s (Dr E, Matt Mitcham, Schwartz, and several others).

OTHER Stuff Onboard:

Since no big screen on lido (Fantasy class), they showed movies in the Punchliner Comedy Club (Cole Porter Club).

Sea day bunch is ofcourse fantastic and not to be missed (we went both days). One interesting thing is one of those days there was a bit of a wait (no problem) but instead of having us wait in line, they provided a buzzer thing that buzzed when table was ready (like land restaurant). Thought that was nice as you’re somewhat free to roam around instead of being stuck in line.

We had the Social Wifi plan (cheapest option). We were quite surprised at how well it worked, compared to other ships. Pictures, even videos were loading. Definitely not as fast as our home wifi/connection (not expecting to be ofcourse) but was faster than even some of the newer ships been on.

Strawberry icecream (frozen yoghurt) was available on both Sea days.

Our particular sailing was ofcourse during Thanksgiving and we had a special menu Thanksigivng day (included pic).

AMBER COVE:

We hung out by the port area, as we did last visit here. There is a huge-pool, 2 slides, zipline, restaurant, bar, few shopping, etc. For the pool area, lounge chairs are free, but hardly any in shaded area, except along the back wall between Men/Women Restrooms (about dozen or more lounge chairs there). You can rent umbrella for shade (~$20 or so). Slides were fun and fast. Didnt do the zipline this time; it’s $20/p for unlimited ziplining.

GRAND TURK:

From all our past visits to Grand Turk in the past, our favorite time was when we rented a golf cart and toured on our own, so we decided to do this again! Greeted at the end of port area, and short walk (less than 5 mins) to the golf carts. We didn’t go to the lighthouse this time, but when went to Pillory Beach, Governer’s Beach, Jack’s Shack (saw Topher again and Calypso). 🙂  Our favorite beach in GT to be honest is Governer’s Beach. Not crowded at all, and water is beautiful (pics included below).

DEBARKATION:

We opt’d for Self Assist this cruise to get a head start on driving back to Texas. Met at the designated (Plat) meeting spot at 7am per instructions provided. They cleared us to start heading off the ship at 7:10, and we were in our car driving out of the cruise parking lot at 7:30am.
