Grand Turk

governor's beach

On our first visit to Grand Turk, we decided to walk to Governor’s Beach. It is part of Columbus Landfall National Park. It’s about a 20-25 min walk from the ship. We realized quickly how friendly people are on this island. What a beautiful beach! We were the first ones at the beach, besides a local (mom) having a table set-up selling her stuff. Her daughter and ours hit it off and started playing together 🙂 Snorkeling was good especially around the shipwreck (called The Mega One Triton). About 1-2 hours later after we arrived, more people started coming and beach got busier, but still nothing compared to how busy the beach right next to the ship got (gets).

UPDATE: After multiple visits to Grand Turk, this is still our favorite beach here.

jack's shack

On another visit to Grand Turk, we walked (~10-15 mins) to Jack’s Shack: a casual beachfront restaurant and bar. They serve delicious grilled burgers, seafood, BBQ and jerk dishes, although you are not obligated to purchase food/drinks there. Very reasonable chair/umbrella rental (usually 2 chairs and umbrella for ~$10). They have 2 lovable dogs: Topher and Calypso! Subsequent visits we have come here again. To us, a visit to Grand Turk wouldn’t be complete without coming here, even for an hour or two.

golf cart rental (own island tour)

Our favorite visit so far to Grand Turk was when we rented a Golf Cart and toured the island on our own! It did not disappoint! We went all the way up to the Lighthouse, toured around there (it was $3/adult, $2/child to get in, and they give you voucher to use those amounts in their gift shop or buy a drink). Then drove to Pillory Beach– not super crowded, beach and water was beautiful. After spending couple hours here we started to head south, stopped at local food truck for some authentic local Jerk Chicken, then continued down closer to the ship and final stop at Jack’s Shack, before dropping our golf cart and walked back to the ship. Fantastic day!
