Roatán, Honduras
'wild on' island tour
Booked thru site called “Island Marketing, Ltd”. Have booked with them several times (different ports) with no issue. They picked us up from the cruise terminal area, and took us to French Harbor, Blue Ocean Reef, Iguana Farm, Bird Sanctuary, and Monkey Park (entrance fee covered), and lastly West End Village, before dropping us off back at the port. Well worth it. Since our visit, they have changed some of the places to visit (since for example I believe Blue Ocean Reef is now permanently closed, but closest can be found here.
monkey/sloth & west bay beach
On another visit to Roatan, we decided to book with Victor Bodden Tours, specifically the “Best of Roatan“, which is a Private tour with them. Highly recommend them. We went to the Monkey & Sloth Sanctuary, and West Bay Beach area. Did some snorkeling and saw a Barracuda that scared the crap out of me! Fun day, everyone had a great time.
mahogany beach
On another visit to this port, we decided to be low-key and just hang out at the port area, utilize the free beach (Mahogany Bay Beach). Beach is man-made but can hardly tell. The main con is the beach gets crowded (as expected). To get here: once you disembark at Mahogany Bay, you will walk along the pier, through the Dufry Store, and uphill to the main shopping area. There is a local marketplace to the far left, while the chairlift and path to the beach and restaurants are to the far right. It was good low-expense day, but we kinda missed West Bay Beach and decided next time we would not stay by the ship area (just our opinion).
BEGINNER SCUBA
On another visit to this port, this time cruising with a friend, we decided to do the ‘Beginner Scuba’ (1st time for us), which was fantastic! Ended up with Anthony Keys in Roatan which is a great dive site/company (people even fly in to Roatan to dive with them). We dove to 40 feet, with 100+ feet of visibility. Water was crystal clear, and was an amazing feeling seeing how deep and clear that water is, that we’re about to dive down to!
monkey/sloth & ZIPLINING
On another visit to Roatan, we decided to book with Manawakie and do their Package 4, which is Monkeys, Sloth, Chocolate/Rum Factory, Ziplining and Beach. We didn’t like the beach area so we skipped it, and the highlight was the ziplining!
